Path Ke Daavedaar SaratChandra 1.0
Sahitya Chintan
Sarat Babu has applied his pen mainly on family and social plotsand for most of his writing period, he did not try to touch anypolitical issue though it was the period of the colonial Britishrule in India and the nationalist sentiments were emerging in allthe nooks and corners of the country. Paather Daabi (In Hindi, PathKe Daavedaar) is the only novel penned by him which has a politicalbackdrop detailing the activities of the armed patriots who werecalled the revolutionaries, aimed for the freedom of the motherlandfrom the shackles of slavery. Perhaps it was the last novel writtenby Sarat Babu because it appears to be incomplete in a way. PaatherDaabi or Path Ke Daavedaar (the claimants of the path) starts witha Bengali Braahmin youth, Apoorva who is fatherless and despite hismother’s abundant love, finds himself as aloof and feels to beextraneous in the family because of the negative attitude of hiselder brothers (negative not only towards him but also towards themother). The story takes off when Apoorva gets a decently payingjob in Rangoon (the capital of Myanmar which was then known asBurma). His mother, Karunamayi who was dreaming to arrange hismarriage with a religious Braahmin girl, becomes sad to send himoverseas but seeing the attitude of her elder son towards hithertonon-earning Apoorva, she reluctantly agrees for that. However toensure that Apoorva does not face any food-related problems on theforeign soil, she sends a Braahmin cook, Tiwari alongwith him.

Aarti, also spelled arathi, aarthi is a Hindu religious ritual ofworship, a part of puja, in which light from wicks soaked in gheeor camphor is offered to one or more deities. Aartis also refer tothe songs sung in praise of the deity, when lamps are beingoffered. Aarti is said to have descended from the Vedic concept offire rituals, or homa. In the traditional aarti ceremony, theflower represents the earth (solidity), the water and accompanyinghandkerchief correspond with the water element (liquidity), thelamp or candle represents the fire component (heat), the peacockfan conveys the precious quality of air (movement), and theyak-tail fan represents the subtle form of ether (space). Theincense represents a purified state of mind, and one’s"intelligence" is offered through the adherence to rules of timingand order of offerings. Thus, one’s entire existence and all facetsof material creation are symbolically offered to the Lord via theaarti ceremony. We are working hard to add more Aarti, Mantra andShloka.
